27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
This is one of the most difficult scriptures in the Bible to understand… Why should I love someone that has hurt me, or someone who has caused me despair? Just doesn’t make sense…
The first reason behind this I believe is found in the story of when Jesus was crucified! He took on the sins of the world… Let’s put that into perspective. Every murderer, every rapist, every adulterer, every one who has abused a child.
HE HAS BECOME SIN… ALL THE SIN EVER COMMITTED, AND YET TO BE COMMITTED! EVEN THE SIN OF HIS ENEMIES!!!
Now that is Mercy, now that is Grace, now that is LOVE!!
Love your enemies… a Foreign concept… Absolutely! Impossible… Definitely not!
Secondly, you reap what you sow! If I sow hate, i will reap hate… If I sow lust, I will reap lust… If I sow negative thinking I will reap negative results!!
Yet, if I sow LOVE, I will most definitely reap LOVE and PEACE!! Peace for my own life!
I do not do all these things for my own gain… I do all this because Jesus LOVES me unconditionally!!
Prayer for today:
Lord Jesus, I come before you today and I pray that You will soften my heart towards those who has treated me in an unjust way!
My worldly nature is to take offence and to hate.
I pray that You will teach me how to LOVE like You do! In the Name of Jesus I pray!
